BaZi — literally "eight characters" and also called the Four Pillars — is an East Asian method that reads the moment you were born as eight characters across four pillars: year, month, day, and hour. Each pillar pairs one of the Five Elements with a sign, and the balance between them maps your timing and tendencies.
Your birth year, month, day, and hour each become a "pillar" — a pair of Chinese-calendar signs tied to the Five Elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. Together those eight characters form a snapshot of the energy present when you were born, which we translate into plain-English timing.
